Del Mar Impressions.
There
were 170 dogs in the 22" jump height Grand Prix Round 1 and they
took 50% of the dogs entered who managed to finish with 10 faults
or less. That made 85 dogs. Not all the dogs with 5 faults got in.
Luz had best time and a dropped bar. He was the first dog with 5 faults
to make the cut. I was very worried that the clean slow dogs won't
leave us any room to advance into the 2nd round though.Luz ended up seeded very early and it was hard to gage what the fast dogs running after us were going to do in Round 2. Our run was very controlled with little stops on all contacts, and we finished 4th. They took 12 dogs. When the Regional Finalists ran for time only, they really pushed and many of them faulted or crashed. There were no foreign dogs, except for Canadians maybe, as those all ran in 26" class. 21 dogs ran in the Finals in 22" class. We ended up seeded pretty late and had a perfect spot. Luz was levitating at the start line and thus he set a very fast speed for the run. We got around 2/3 of the course with touch'n'go contacts and no waisted yardage and then crashed royally after the collapsed tunnel... Oh well. Otherwise Del Mar was a lot of fun and our team "D.A.M. The Torpedoes!" finished 4th out of 134 (I think) teams competing. And I got a pretty, red USDAA T-shirt for making it into the Finals, ;-). |
